In March 2008 it became a legal requirement for all pilots flying internationally to hold a minimum of ICAO level 4 in English. Although national authorities were given until March 2011 to implement the requirement, FTEJerez went ahead and developed a unique testing system and in April 2010 became the first organisation to be formally approved by the UK CAA to conduct English Language Proficiency (ELP) testing. We remain one of only two approved organisations in the UK and as a result of the CAA approval the FTE ELP Test is now accepted in over 20 countries worldwide.
As well as being at the forefront of English language testing FTEJerez has developed an Aviation English course, English language improvement courses and an ICAO test preparation course to enable pilots and Air Traffic Controllers to obtain more than the minimum ICAO level 4. This is particularly important because many employers make ICAO grade 5 their minimum requirement.
As well as testing external candidates FTEJerez tests all non-native speaking students on integrated courses as part of the course fee. This together with in house Radio Licence testing (RT) ensures that all FTEJerez students who graduate the integrated course meet all licence issue requirements.
