The aim of combining back-to-back CPL (A) and IR (A) modular flying training courses is to train PPL (A) holders to the level of proficiency necessary for the issue of a CPL (A), a Multi-Engine Piston Airplanes (Land) Class Rating and IR (A), enabling them to operate for hire and reward under instrument flight rules and in instrument meteorological conditions.

Entry Requirements

Before commencing a modular CPL (A) and IR (A) Training Course an applicant shall:

  • Be the holder of a PPL (A), to include a night rating, issued in accordance with ICAO Annex 1
  • Have completed 150 hours flight time as a pilot of which 70 hours must be as PIC (to apply for the CPL, 100 hours PIC will be required)
  • Have passed the EASA theoretical knowledge examinations for CPL (A) and IR (A), or ATPL (A).
    If the theory examinations were completed under any authority except the UK CAA, they must be accredited by the UK Authority before commencing the course
  • Have completed 300nm qualifying cross country flight
  • Have completed the 5 hours night flying requirement including the 5 solo night take offs and landings
  • Class 1 Medical certificate (accredited by the UK Authority)
  • Be fluent in English

It is desirable that the applicant holds an EASA FRTOL, but this can be completed at FTEJerez.

Course duration

12 weeks

Training Programme

  • 8 hours Piper Warrior II
  • 35.5 hours Piper Seneca III (including 2.5 hours for the CPL (A) skill test / Multi-Engine Piston Airplanes (Land) (MEP) Class Rating test and 2 hours for the IR (A) skill test)
  • 41 hours Piper Seneca III based FNPT2 STD training
  • Computer Based Training plus briefs
  • All flying training is dual instruction
  • Course includes 7 hours mandatory theory training for the Multi-Engine Piston(MEP) Class Rating theoretical knowledge examination

Fees and Payment

  • The course fee is 27,500€
  • CAA licence issue and test fees not included
  • Single-use en-suite accommodation on site and meals available at additional cost (330€ + VAT per week)
