FTEJerez Airline First Officer Programme

Pilot Training JAR ATPL

As one of world’s leading flight training organisations, at FTEJerez we are privileged to train some of the most talented individuals from all over the world. Training excellence is in the details and is at the heart of everything we do. FTEJerez cadets are not just prepared for a first airline position with a leading airline, but are indeed trained to be future captains.

The FTEJerez Airline First Officer Programme is a residential, integrated course taking students with little or no previous flying experience to the beginning of a career as an airline pilot. It carries EASA-FCL approval for the issue of a Commercial Pilot’s Licence/Instrument Rating (CPL/IR), with ATPL theory and MCC/JOC to EASA Integrated ATPL standard (sometimes called Frozen ATPL).

Entry Requirements

Age

A candidate must be at least 18 years of age to commence ATPL (A) training at FTEJerez.

Academic

The integrated course is intense and demanding. In order to cope with the breadth and speed of delivery of the course, candidates need to be capable in Mathematics, English and Science based subjects. A minimum of five GCSE passes at level C or above (or equivalent) including English, Mathematics, and at least one science subject is necessary. Although not essential, Physics is highly desirable.

English Language

Instruction and all ground school exams are in English and of a technical nature. Sufficient written and oral English language is a prerequisite.

Furthermore, in accordance with ICAO Language Proficiency requirements, Pilots who use English in R/T communication on international routes must be assessed as ICAO English Language Level 4 (Operational) or above.  This must be confirmed by successful completion of an airline industry approved test.

FTEJerez is able to provide an English language assessment as part of the selection process to ensure that students have the required level of English for all elements of flight training. Intensive Aviation English Courses are also available at FTEJerez for those students who might require them.

Aptitude

Airline Captains of tomorrow require a unique skill-set, which is a combination of excellent technical skills, good airmanship and managerial talent. Our pilot assessment is designed to discover your airline captaincy potential and to see if you have the talent and motivation to become an FTEJerez cadet. Our assessments take two days and are free of charge. During both days, experienced senior instructors will identify talents and assess your performance in Mathematics, Physics, Numerical reasoning, Verbal reasoning, PILAPT (Hand-Eye co-ordination test), a personal interview and a final debrief.

Successful completion of the aptitude testing is compulsory for entry to FTEJerez.

In addition, FTEJerez is able to provide assistance with a full pilot selection programme, which can be tailored to the specific requirements of any airline.

Medical

An EASA Class 1 medical is required to commence training, but we recommend you that you liaise with FTEJerez in advance.

With the introduction of EASA, new regulations will require a pilot's licence to be issued by the EASA state where the initial Class 1 medical was performed. This means that anyone wishing to hold a licence issued by the UK must do their initial medical at Gatwick.

FTEJerez is approved under the UK CAA and has a well established system for licence application which normally takes a few days. With other authorities, however, there can be a wait of up to 3 months for licence issue and you cannot start a type rating until you receive the licence. FTEJerez cannot take any responsibility for delays in licence issue due to initial medicals issued by EASA countries other than the UK.

It is also suggested that you make an appointment well in advance and be prepared for a full day of testing.

You can contact the CAA medical unit as follows:

  • Phone: 00 44 1293 573 682, or
  • e-mail: medicalweb@srg.caa.co.uk
  • Or read their requirements here

Should you require any additional information, please do not hesitate to contact us.
