Following the recent privatization of air traffic control (ATC) towers and the training of air traffic controllers in Spain, a new and dynamic era has arrived. It brings with it great opportunities for those interested in an exhilarating and rewarding career as an Air Traffic Controller.

For its ATC training services, FTEJerez has teamed up with Global Aerospace Logistics, a prestigious international company fully certified as an air traffic training provider based in the United Arab Emirates - with vast experience in comprehensive air traffic control training and air traffic services worldwide.

Through this addition to our training portfolio, FTEJerez becomes the first private or public training institution to be certified (view certificate) by Spain's Air Navigation Regulator Agencia Estatal de Seguridad Aerea (AESA) to conduct ATC training in Spain. The entire course content is in accordance with Spain Order FOM 1841/2010, with Eurocontrol's Common Core Content requirements, and Commission Regulation (EU) 805/2011.

Course Contents

The ATC course duration is 22 weeks and is divided in 2 phases.

The first phase, known as BASIC training phase, has a total duration of 11 weeks. It is considered the theoretical stage during which all the basic knowledge required to reach the right level to commence training in our state-of-the-art control tower simulator are taught.

The 14 subjects taught during this initial phase include, among others; Meteorology, Navigation and Air Traffic Management. The entire course content is in accordance with Spain Order FOM 1841/2010, with Eurocontrol's Common Core Content requirements, and Commission Regulation (EU) 805/2011.

Daily courses schedule starts at 09:00 to 17:00, with 1 hour for lunch on campus.

The ATPL and ATC Courses take their coffee breaks at the same time creating an environment in which the students mix freely, allowing an exchange of knowledge; an appreciation of the different perspectives of the same industry; practice and improve their English and, of course, make friends. The vision of creating long term relationships between pilots and air traffic controllers is focused on bring both teams in the air and on the ground to a level of communication with no barriers.

The second phase is the RATING training phase. Its duration is 11 weeks and the training is carried out utilizing our on-campus state-of-the- art ATC simulator. During this training period the student will acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and operational capability in order to be awarded a Student Air Traffic Controller licence. This licence enables the holder thereof to commence working under supervision in an air traffic control tower.

During both training phases, programmed visits will take place to aeronautical facilities (control towers, hangars, airplanes…). Students could also, where possible, take part in actual flights and through observing from the back-seat of our training aircraft, gain valuable experience of what is happening in an aircraft cockpit in terms of interaction with ATC.

Course Price

The final price for the Air Traffic Controller course includes:

  • All required training materials.
  • Full uniform.
  • Fee for Student Controller Licence issued by AESA.
  • Accommodation on campus, including single occupancy bedroom, with en suite bathroom, air conditioning and internet connection.
  • Unlimited access to all facilities on campus: gymnasium, swimming pool, social club, sporting facilities, crew room, game room, etc
  • Breakfast, lunch and dinner every day of the week throughout the whole course.
  • VAT included where applicable.

Our all inclusive price is: 46.865€.

Course price without accommodation: 39.500€.

All Prices are valid for courses starting before June 30th, 2013. Should the applicable VAT rate be modified, FTEJerez reserves the right to adjust the price accordingly on the corresponding services.

FTEJerez has a special arrangement with la caixa that can assist with funding your training should you require assistance.

How to apply

Requisites

The following requisites are necessary to be admitted as an ATC student:

  • Spanish or European nationality.
  • Must be 18 years old.
  • Have completed Baccalaureate or any other equivalent that grants access to University.
  • High level of English: C1 or equivalent.
  • If Spanish is not the mother tongue, a level C1 in Spanish must be accredited.
  • Pass a medical Class III test. This requisite is not mandatory until you have completed your selections tests.

Selection process phases

Once your application is approved, you will be invited over to take our selection test on campus. The phases of this test are the following:

  • FEAST 1 aptitude test. view FEAST
  • FEAST 2 aptitude test.
  • Interview in English.
  • Personal Interview.

All these tests are eliminative, therefore, if the candidates is declared not apt on any one of them, he will be excluded from the selection process. In order to access these tests you must attend with your ID or Passport.

FTEJerez will offer all means necessary in order to undertake the selection tests, including accommodation on campus the night prior to the tests and all meals during the examination days.

The selections tests will be carried out at our campus in Jerez de la Frontera.
