Selection process information

Terms and conditions.

Welcome to the application website for the B.Sc. in Pilot Studies, a programme which combines FTE’s renowned integrated programme, the Airline First Officer Programme (AFOP), with an official degree; the Bachelor of Science in Pilot Studies, delivered by our educational partner, the Institute of Technology Carlow.

This programme has been developed to allow airline pilot cadets the opportunity to graduate with both an ATPL licence and a European recognised degree. The B.Sc. in Pilot Studies is compliant with the Bologna Framework (ECTS credits) and is a great starting point to an airline career, especially for students who have just completed high school level studies.

Selection for the B.Sc. in Pilot Studies will follow the standard format and battery of tests FTEJerez conducts for the AFOP. Successful candidates will be offered to join the course commencing in Carlow, Ireland, in September 2020 and subsequently, positions on AFOP courses commencing throughout summer 2021.

This programme has been developed to allow airline pilot cadets the opportunity to graduate with both an ATPL licence and a European recognised degree. The B.Sc. in Pilot Studies is compliant with the Bologna Framework (ECTS credits) and is a great starting point to an airline career for students who have just completed high school level studies.

The degree is the result of close work with the airline industry, developing a programme that meets the industry’s needs and expectations.

This programme is ideal for candidates who have just completed secondary level education (high school) and, in general, for candidates who do not hold university degrees or professional qualifications.

To be eligible for this scheme you must meet entry criteria for the Airline First Officer Programme.

Total fees for the academic module of the B.Sc. in Pilot Studies are € 9,900, payable to IT Carlow before course commencement in September 2020.

On completion of the academic modules, students will enrol on a standard Airline First Officer Programme. Current fees for the AFOP are € 119,500 Euros, including full-board accommodation.

Funding options for Spanish residents may be available with our partner banks. More information available at www.ftejerez.com/afop.

Students selected for this programme will not only add a formal recognition to their EASA ATPL but, unlike other degree programmes, the B.Sc. in Pilot Studies will also deliver real academic value and further quality training that is truly appreciated by the industry’s main employers.

In addition, the B.Sc. in Pilot Studies provides students with familiarisation and further knowledge in key competencies that will improve their performance throughout the theoretical stages of the ATPL syllabus.

With nearly 100 students having enrolled on this programme so far, the B.Sc. in Pilot Studies has been certified by the Royal Aeronautical Society and has ranked in the top-3 of Europe’s leading degree programmes for ATPL students.

It is also worth mentioning that students enrolled on this programme are allowed to apply for any airline mentored programme delivered by FTEJerez without compromising their guaranteed slot on one of the AFOP courses in summer 2021.

Candidates will be able to apply as from February 2020.

When applying, you will be required to create a user name and password. With this information, you will be given access to a personal Candidate Area, where you can complete your application.

Should you meet the initial criteria, you will be able to complete your application by submitting the required documents and answering an online questionnaire. Please note that the application must be completed within 5 days, starting with the first submission.

Should your application be successful in progressing to the next phase you will be required to travel, at your own expense, to FTE’s campus in Jerez, Spain. Currently, these one-day selection dates will take place during the months of March and April 2020. Please note that this stage will be carried out following FTE’s Assessment Policy.

This selection will include aptitude tests, a group exercise and an evidence based interview. Candidates invited to this phase will receive pre-test guidance material in order to prepare for the assessments.

Candidates who have passed an FTE assessment either for the AFOP or for an airline programme may apply directly for this programme without having to sit further assessments. If this is your case, please email our training advisors directly at info@ftejerez.com.

Throughout the selection process you will be advised as to whether or not your application has been progressed to the next stage. Please note that emails will not be sent and that you must visit your personal candidate area for these updates.
